Wallace who joined Fox News in 2003 announced his retirement on Tuesday’s edition of “Fox News Sunday.” His last day with the network will be October 10.

“After 23 years at Fox News I have decided it’s time to retire” Wallace said. “I’ve been extraordinarily lucky to have the best job in television news working for the best boss in television news Roger Ailes. For me it has been an honor and a privilege to be associated with Fox News and I will deeply miss all of my colleagues.

Wallace began his career in television news in 1963 at WXEL-TV in Miami. He later worked at NBC News where he served as a reporter and anchor for “The Today Show” and “NBC Nightly News.” He also spent time at ABC News CBS News and PBS.

At Fox News Wallace has been a staple of the network’s election coverage serving as a moderator of the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in 2016. He also interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018.

“Chris has been a remarkable journalist whose skill in asking tough questions allowed him to hold politicians and newsmakers accountable across party lines” Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement.

“We are grateful for everything he has done for Fox News and we wish him all the best in his retirement.”

Wallace’s son Peter is also a journalist and currently serves as the chief White House correspondent for Fox News.
