Disney’s Mulan 2 also titled Mulan II is a 2004 American direct-to-video musical action comedy-drama film directed by Darrell Rooney and Lynne Southerland and is a sequel to the 1998 film Mulan. Eddie Murphy returns as Mushu Mulan’s dragon sidekick. This film was the first sequel that Disney ever released straight to video.

Mushu is a dragon who was once a guardian spirit of the Fa family. He was demoted to a position as a pedicab driver after he failed to protect a family member. When Mulan needs help to save the emperor Mushu is determined to redeem himself.

Mushu is voiced by Eddie Murphy. Murphy was approached to return to the role of Mushu after the success of the first film. He was hesitant at first but he eventually agreed to return.

“It was a no-brainer to come back and do Mushu” Murphy said. “I had so much fun doing the character the first time around. And I was really touched that people responded to Mushu the way they did.

Murphy said that he tried to bring something new to the character in the sequel.

“In the first movie Mushu is trying to prove himself” Murphy said. “In this movie he’s more comfortable in his skin.

He’s more sure of himself. He’s still got that ego but he’s also got a heart. He’s grown up a little bit.

Mulan 2 also features the return of Mushu’s sidekick Cri-Kee the cricket. Cri-Kee is voiced by Mark Moseley.

“Cri-Kee is Mushu’s conscience” Moseley said.

“He’s the little voice inside Mushu’s head that tells him whether he’s doing the right thing or the wrong thing. He’s always there to give Mushu a little bit of guidance.”

Moseley said that he enjoyed getting to play a character that is so different from Mushu.

“Cri-Kee is such a different character than Mushu” Moseley said. “He’s so small and so fragile. And he’s always getting into trouble.

It’s been a lot of fun to play him.”

Mulan 2 also features the return of Ming-Na Wen as the voice of Mulan. Wen said that she was excited to return to the role of Mulan.

“I’m so honored to be able to play Mulan again” Wen said. “She’s such a strong and inspiring character. I’m excited to see what she’ll do in this new adventure.

Mulan 2 also features the return of B.D. Wong as the voice of Captain Li Shang. Wong said that he was excited to return to the role of Shang.
